A strong believer in the power of design thinking, Bill Digneit is the Director of SISU: The Innovation Institute + Department Head of Theatre Dance at North Michigan University. He was the winner of an Innovation Strategy Award in the Culture of Innovation category earlier this year for his “$1 million Reno-Innovate Fund” that supports and manages ideas submitted by the campus community. Applicants are reviewed by a committee review and winning ideas are launched into a two-year test phase to encourage a culture of experimentation and collaboration.

The Innovation Strategy Awards were hosted for the second year at Future Festival World Summit 2023 event, honoring the best business tactics gathered from conversations with some of the world’s most inspiring innovators.

Redefining failure can be a challenging feat for many innovators who often view it as a roadblock or missed opportunity. In addition to supporting ideas coming out of North Michigan University’s campus community, Bill Digneit and SISU’s Reno-Innovate Fund leverages Design Thinking practices to not only test the success of ideas but to also embrace failure as a learning opportunity where knowledge can be shared to maximize future project outcomes.
